The forms are now assembled – the second one is clamped and drying. Though now cliche, I would like to point out that if you are ever going to build something out of wood and glue, and you happen to be at the hardware store on a day when clamps are on sale, buy as many as you can afford and then double that number. You can never have too many clamps. There, I said it.
On the right is a clamped form with the vertical supports that will help provide more surface area for when I attach the sides. The left shows the temporary braces I attached to square up everything for construction, and for attaching the table saw jig I’m going to make to trim the ends of the bent panels. The vertical supports will be trimmed flush at some point, either with the router or table saw.
Also, the bendable plywood came in and I’m disappointed. It’s the crappiest grade of wood I’ve ever seen. Is there a Z rating? Seriously, bendable plywood shouldn’t crack and split while bending. I’m not sure if I’m going to use it. Though, there are some better areas I can use and the 1/8″ birch that I’ll lay over the top should stabilize it, but I’ll have to do some testing.
Testing? Yeah sure. I’ll probably get impatient and just attach the sides tomorrow night…
